Purpose of the Catalogue
The RBINI Public Domain Literature Library exists to make historical scientific texts accessible to modern readers. By providing curated editorial notes and reading companions, the catalogue helps users understand context, themes, and connections between works without replacing the original texts.
Scope and Selection
The library contains 91 books sourced from Project Gutenberg, all in the public domain. Works were selected for their relevance to natural history, evolution, ecology, and microscopy, with an emphasis on 19th- and early 20th-century publications. Selection was based on availability, historical significance, and the potential to benefit from editorial interpretation.
Source Attribution
Every book record identifies Project Gutenberg as the publisher. Authors are listed with full names and dates where known. No book has been verified against physical editions; the digital versions are assumed to be faithful reproductions of public-domain texts.
Bibliographic Records
Each record includes title, author, publisher, keywords, target-reader description, and a catalogue note. Keywords are taken from the original Project Gutenberg metadata. The target-reader field is a standard phrase indicating suitability for public-domain text readers. Catalogue notes are written by the collection editor and describe themes, structure, or context, not comprehensive summaries.
Category Assignment
Books are grouped into four categories based on subject matter and intended use. Categories are not authoritative classifications but navigational aids.
